We’re overhauling our upload experience to make it easier to manage! Now all of your episode media and information will be managed on one page. We wanted to make it easier to see and manage all of your information in one place, and make editing a better experience.
The current upload process in Casted does not allow you to upload media and add episode information. This means while Casted processes your audio file and transcript you can’t add the rest of your episode details, guests, or resources. Now you are taken directly to the episode info page after clicking Upload New Episode, and while your media file is being processed you can add other episode information.
The previous episode info page had the look and feel of an episode player, or landing page. While this looked nice, it made it difficult to see and manage an episode quickly. We heard from users that it didn’t feel like the page was made for actually managing an episode, instead it was a page made for viewing an episode. To address this all of your episode information is now visible right on the page, laid out as a form. We made the change to a form view, because it better matches what users expected for viewing and editing information.
Additionally, it was a cumbersome process to edit episode information because editing was hidden behind the pesky edit pencil. With a form view you can now easily edit simply by clicking on a field and starting typing.
How and How To?
With this update we wanted to address a few problem areas with the upload and episode management process:
Users weren’t able to add episode information while a file/transcript processed.
In our old UI as an episode was being processed the episode was locked down. This meant you couldn’t add your episode information while the file was processing. In feedback sessions this was a pain point, as marketers felt like they should be able to use the processing time to get their episodes set up, and we agreed! Now, as a file is being processed just the media player shows a status bar and you can add/edit episode information.
Note: The clipping studio will still be disabled while the transcript is processing.
Player header, and layout, limited how much information we could show on the page.
Previously, the episode info screen had a preview player that took up a lot of screen space and created some layout issues. With this update we wanted to make sure that all of an episode’s information is right on the page, and not hidden in tabs.
To do this we changed the info page to look and feel like a form so now all of your information is displayed and easily editable. We also made this change because it better matches managing and adding information for an asset, and not just viewing it.
Editing was cumbersome, having a separate interaction for each edit you want to make was slow.
Finally, edit mode! In the updated UI to edit episode information all you have to do is make a change to a field. We received feedback, and agreed, that having to click on the edit pencil button each time you needed to make a change was a tedious process. Now you can make one or many changes at once via the new Edit Mode. This mode lets you make changes and save or undo them as needed.
Moving resources onto the Episode Info page so all your assets are in one place!
Last but not least we moved Resources onto the episode info page so that you can manage your episode assets, add clips, and analyze results in their respective places. Resources are at the bottom of the page beneath guests, and work the same was as they do today.
Oh and one last thing…
